Meet Rosie

Rosemary Szmyd, MSW, LCSW-S, EMDR

Hi! I'm Rosie (she/her). Last name is Polish—pronounced “Shmid.” I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of both Georgia and Texas, and a board approved supervisor in Texas. I enjoy the privilege of working with LGBTQIA+ clients and people with complex trauma. I view our past experiences as impactful factors on both our blind spots and our strengths in the present day.

Throughout my therapy and social work career I have passionately advocated for racial, social and economic justice through the empowerment of individuals and groups including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with HIV, people experiencing homelessness, victims of domestic violence, people with mental illness, people with disabilities, veterans, children and youth, and more.

As a queer therapist myself, I am mindful of how people’s identities factor into their experience of the world and their experience in therapy.

I believe that people begin to heal the moment they feel heard. While I do incorporate interventions like EMDR, IFS, CBT, and distress tolerance, my first and foremost focus is to be unconditionally on your team and on your side. Past clients have told me that I am a natural listener and am genuine and warm in how I relate to people. Outside of work, you can find me trying out a new recipe, going to yoga, reading my kindle while cuddled up with my cat Mackenzie, or checking out a new Buford Highway spot with my wife.

Modalities

I am certified in EMDR for trauma processing. I also utilize a harm-reduction approach for helping people improve patterns related to substance use, self-harm, disordered eating and other self-limiting behaviors. I am a certified yoga instructor and I integrate whole body wellness and mindfulness into my practice.

Other modalities used: cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, motivational interviewing, trauma-focused, interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic, strengths-based, TFCBT, attachment-based, enneagram, existential
